Controlled Burn
Have you ever performed a Controlled Burn? Have you ever seen one? A Controlled Burn can either be very small, for example, using a Propane Torch (such as ‘Flaming off weeds’) or as large as burning a Forest from all of the deadfall (a tangled mass of fallen trees and branches).
Why do people perform a Controlled Burn? It is mostly used by individuals in the Agricultural industry or by the Forest Service. In Agricultural areas, a controlled burn is used to rid a field of last years’ crop residue and weed management. In the Forest Service industry it is used to control or minimize the threat of a catastrophic forest fire which could destroy homes or take human lives.
There is a weed called the Pig Iron and it produces 117,400 seeds per weed!!! Can you imagine what that field would look like if 117,400 seeds from every Pig Iron Weed took root?? When a field is burned, it burns the weeds and their seeds down to the soil, but it doesn’t burn into the ground, which if it did, it would destroy all of the nutrients necessary for future growth.
I know there are a lot of different analogies I could use or directions I could go with this thought, but I want you to follow me on this one: What are the weeds in your life that need to have a controlled burn put to them? I’d like to give you some examples of weeds that could choke out a ‘bumper crop’ being produced in your life. First, let me warn you – I’m making up the “official names”, but you’ll get my drift….
Weed Lazyitus – The act of just going with the flow and not really doing what you need to do to make your business successful. Controlled Burn: Quit being a couchum potatoum and get out there and Just Do It.
Weed Quantum Fearum – The gigantic sensation one feels that causes you to become immobile, neither moving forward, backward or sideways because you think you’ll make a mistake, or you don’t think you know what to do/say. Controlled Burn: Obtain some coaching that provides you with homework requiring you to take action.
Weed Procrastinacious – This happens when an individual knows what to do or has been trained on how to do it, but has a delayed action response and puts things off because “there’s always tomorrow…”. Controlled Burn: TAKE ACTION NOW!!! Carpe Diem, or Seize the Day!! Don’t put off ‘til tomorrow what you can do today!!
Weed Analasi Paralysi – The process an individual goes through by thinking they need continual training and have EVERYTHING before they even get started. They get their cards. They get their website. They get their LLC. They purchase books upon books and CD’s upon CD’s regarding their business venture (they probably have a whole library of unused or unread material) in an attempt to ‘learn as much as they can’. This weed also incorporates the weeds, Quantum Fearum, Procrastinacious and Lazyitus. Controlled Burn: Get started with what you know. You’ll learn as you go and not matter how much training you receive, mistakes are bound to be made, but they are only stepping stones on the path to your success. Not failures – Just STEPPING STONES!!!
There are more that I haven’t identified in this list, but I believe you know what they might be in your life. Don’t let weeds choke out your productivity and success!! Take a moment and take stock of where you’re at in your life and where you want to be. Also consider WHEN you want to be there, i.e., how long will it take? Once you’ve taken stock, then do a CONTROLLED BURN on all of your weeds and be ready to receive an abundant, successful return on your investment!!
